Will it come out?

This is what we see most often and how it usually goes. Age and condition change the details — rarely the outcome.

  • COMES OUT comes out completely as a rule
  • LIGHTENS lightens markedly, rarely gone
  • STAYS damage to the fibre itself, not soil

Coffee and tea COMES OUT Usually comes out completely, even when old.
Cooking grease and oil COMES OUT A grease solvent before the water. Olefin holds oil hardest.
Mud and soil COMES OUT Best let dry. Do not rub it wet; that drives it deeper.
Blood COMES OUT Cold water. Heat sets it in the fibre.
Pet urine COMES OUT If it has reached the padding, the odour is a separate job. We say which case it is before we start.
Red wine LIGHTENS Fresh often comes out entirely. Dried tannin has dyed the fibre.
Ink and marker LIGHTENS Depends on the ink. Tested in a hidden place first.
Sun fading STAYS The colour has left the fibre. That is not soil.
Burns and melted fibre STAYS The fibre itself is damaged.
Dye transfer STAYS Cannot be pulled back out.

The label under the cushion.

On most sofas there is a label with a single letter. It decides everything that follows — and finding it takes half a minute.

  • Water-based cleaning permitted. Extraction applies.
  • Solvent only. Water leaves rings.
  • Both permitted. We choose by the stain.
  • Vacuum only. No liquid. Then we work dry.

Cannot find it? That is common. Send a close-up of the fabric in daylight, as close as your phone stays sharp — we identify it from the photo.

What we do not do.

We do not clean leather with extraction.

Instead

Leather gets its own product and method, and sheepskin is assessed on its own before anything is applied.

We do not saturate viscose.

Instead

Viscose gets minimum moisture and a longer dry. It takes longer and the fabric survives it.

We name no price at the door.

Instead

The price is confirmed from photographs before anyone sets off. You make no decision with someone standing in your hallway.

We take nothing away.

Instead

The work is done in your home, with our equipment. The sofa goes nowhere and you have it back the same day.

Craft is not being able to do everything. It is knowing where the limits are — and saying so before starting.

Fibre register

What decides the method.

What suits strong cotton does not apply to viscose. Here is the material, the construction, the method we use — and what it must not exceed.

Synthetics Plain weave Hot-water extraction Olefin absorbs oil.
Fitted carpet Loop pile Hot-water extraction A glued backing takes less water than a woven one.
Wool Twill Extraction, neutral pH Shrinks and felts if saturated.
Silk Plain weave Minimum moisture Water leaves a ring. Alkali is not tolerated.
Viscose Plain weave Minimum moisture Weakens when wet, stiffens as it dries.
Linen Plain weave Minimum moisture Creases and rings.
Jute and sisal Loop pile Near-dry Yellow in water and lose their shape.
Velvet Cut pile Directional brush, moisture control The pile crushes. Marks can be permanent.
Hand-knotted rug Hand-knotted Assessed on its own Dyes can bleed. Tested first.
Sheepskin and leather Hide Assessed on its own The hide hardens if over-wetted.
